The North Olympic Library System (NOLS) invites adults to attend an introduction to meditation event with Melanie Barclay in Clallam Bay, Port Angeles, Forks, and Sequim starting July 31. Melanie Barclay, Ayurveda Health Practitioner and owner of Life Force Ayurveda, will teach participants about meditation’s relevance, history and benefits.

NOLS to host free cartoon drawing workshops for tweens

The North Olympic Library System (NOLS) will host free cartoon drawing workshops for tweens with Aron Nels Steinke in Sequim, Forks, and Port Angeles. Aron Nels Steinke, bestselling and award-winning creator of the “Mr. Wolf's Class” series, will lead tweens in grades 4–7 as they design an anthropomorphic character and start creating a mini-comic.

The North Olympic Library System (NOLS) is partnering with Feiro Marine Life Center to offer a free tidepool exploration event on Tuesday, July 23, 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., at Slip Point. Participants should meet at Slip Point Lighthouse at the end of Frontier Street in Clallam Bay.

Barbie Watch Party at NOLS

The North Olympic Library System (NOLS) will host a movie screening of “Barbie” (2023) at libraries in Port Angeles, Sequim and Forks. Adults and teens are welcome to attend the Barbie Watch Party and enjoy free pizza, popcorn and drinks. Attendees are encouraged to dress in pink or as their favorite Barbie, sing along with the film and pose in a life-size Barbie box for a photo op.

Tweens and teens are invited to join artist Heather Lietzke of the Heather Sky Project at the Forks Branch Library on Tuesday, July 9, from 10 a.m.¬ to 11 a.m. for a free Junk Journaling Workshop. Lietzke will guide participants through the process of journaling with reclaimed materials and imagination as a pathway for self-expression and reflection.

Children ages 5 and under together with their caregivers can enjoy hands-on play with art materials during the Little Hands Art program offered by the North Olympic Library System (NOLS). Paint, playdough, glue, and other materials are provided to encourage sensory learning through exploration, curiosity, creativity, and tactile engagement. Children should wear clothes that can get artfully messy.

Pride Month occurs each year in June to commemorate the 1969 Stonewall Uprising and to uplift voices of the LGBTQIA+ community. June is also recognized as Rainbow Book Month, an initiative of the American Library Association that fosters community, understanding and access to LGBTQIA+ literature.

Sequim Library Moves to Temporary Location during Construction Project

The North Olympic Library System (NOLS) is excited to announce the Sequim Library Expansion and Renovation Project is entering its next phase in preparation for construction. Staff and professional movers who specialize in relocating library materials will soon be packing up approximately 50,000 items in the Sequim Library’s collection and moving to the temporary location, 609 W. Washington St., near the former JCPenney store.

The North Olympic Library System (NOLS) offers free computer classes from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of the month, Jan. 23 through Oct. 22, at the Port Angeles Main Library, 2210 S. Peabody St. In November, the class meets on the third Tuesday, Nov. 19. The classes are part of the Northstar Digital Literacy Program that assists people interested in learning how to complete general tasks using a computer.

This winter, the North Olympic Library System (NOLS) is offering three chances to race the clock and other puzzle teams at the Port Angeles Main Library, 2210 S. Peabody St. Jigsaw puzzle contests start at 10 a.m. sharp on the second Saturday of the month, Jan. 13, Feb. 10 and March 9.

Art, Angst and Acoustic: Open Mic at the Forks Library, Jan. 16

Share your acoustic music and performance art at “Art, Angst and Acoustic: Open Mic,” a new event series designed for your creative self-expression, presented in partnership with Forks Branch Library and Rainforest Council for the Arts. The first open mic is set for Tuesday, Jan. 16, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Forks Branch Library, 171 S. Forks Ave.

New Year, Renewed You

If you have made a New Year’s resolution and would like help getting started or staying motivated, attend “New Year, Renewed You,” a free workshop hosted by the North Olympic Library System (NOLS). Life Coach Sabrina Caverly leads the workshop on Thursday, Jan. 11, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., at Olympic Theatre Arts Center, 414 N. Sequim Ave. No registration is needed.

Craft Café at Port Angeles Main Library

The Port Angeles Main Library invites crafters ages 15 and older to bring their in-progress projects to Craft Café, a new event offered from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on the second Monday of each month, Jan. 8 through April 8. Attendees can connect with other creators and share expertise while working on their portable arts and crafts projects.

Yarn Circle at Sequim Branch Library

Sequim Branch Library is hosting a new Yarn Circle every Saturday in January from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. People ages 15 and older are invited to drop in with their knitting, crochet, embroidery, cross-stitch, or similar project. Basic finger knitting supplies will be available for those who want to start something new. . All experience levels are welcome.

Donors support Sequim Library with $442,000 to name children’s spaces, LEED certification of new building

During a special meeting on December 12, the North Olympic Library System (NOLS) Board of Trustees approved three resolutions recognizing generous donations to the Sequim Library Expansion and Renovation Project.
